QuARanTine Art Resources: Week of March 16-20

At Westinghouse Arts Academy, art is our passion, and it’s what brings us together.

Arts challenge March 2020

Example of an arts challege posted at WAACS.insta!

As the unprecedented events of the coronavirus outbreak necessitating us to stop meeting physically, our staff and student body have come together online. Primarily through our Facebook and Instagram accounts, we’ve been sharing arts challenges and other resources to keep kids interested in studio, digital, literary, and performing arts connected with the mediums that inspire them, even through tough times.

Our studio arts teachers post daily art challenges on their Studio Arts Instagram account. These include digital arts challenges, and anyone can participate.

Our Dance Department Instagram has a daily roundup of classes to keep you moving.

Our Literary Arts Instagram account has daily challenges as well.

Some of the highlights posted this week include:

Local cartoonist Joe Wos is teaching cartooning online.
>Google has free virtual tours of museums.
The Metropolitan Opera is posting performances daily.
>Millvale-based ceramics studio offers clay and tutorials. Materials will be dropped off. Email tonpottery@gmail.com to participate.
>Pittsburgh Public Theatre is livestreaming plays. Details are on their Facebook page.
>Our partners at 25 Carrick Ave are streaming a wide variety of musical performances nightly on their Facebook page.
>The librarians at the Peters Township Public Library created a Harry Potter-themed digital escape room, accessible fully online for the muggle in your family.
>Resources to write a screenplay, as well as a paid challenge to enter, are offered by NYCMidnight as part of their annual screenwriting challenge.

There’s so much more posted daily on our Facebook and Instagram accounts! This week, keep a lookout for a WAACS-themed coloring book, more daily challenges, and additional resources to keep you connected, and provide art at home!
