Westinghouse Arts Academy is tuition-free, there is no cost to attend. Additionally, transportation is provided, depending on where you live. Let’s take a closer look:
Westinghouse Arts Academy is a public, charter school. This means tuition is paid by tax dollars, just like the schools in your home district. So, it’s free for students coming from any location in Pennsylvania. When you choose Westinghouse Arts Academy, your tax dollars come to us instead of staying with your home school district. All of our funding comes from school taxes, and we’re accountable for a quality high school education, just like other public high schools. The charter school difference is that we’re the school you choose because your student will thrive in our arts-focused environment, and you see it as a better alternative to a traditional public high school.
School districts with borders that are within a 10 mile radius of our school are required to provide transportation for students who choose to attend Westinghouse Arts Academy.
Currently, the following school districts provide transportation for our students:
Allegheny County: Baldwin-Whitehall, Clairton City, Duquesne City, East Allegheny, Elizabeth Forward, Gateway, McKeesport, Penn Hills, Pittsburgh Public*, Plum, Riverview, South Allegheny, Steel Valley, West Jefferson Hills, West Mifflin Area, Wilkinsburg Borough*, Woodland Hills
Westmoreland County: Franklin Regional, Norwin, Penn Trafford, Yough
If you feel your district falls within the radius, please reach out. We’ll work with you to secure transportation if we can.
We have plenty of students who come from outside the transportation-provided radius. In these cases, families will drive their students to school, or carpool with other students who live nearby. Students with driver’s licenses are permitted to drive themselves, and student parking is available.
Materials for core instruction, including a laptop for each student, are provided by the school. There are incidental costs associated with some of our arts programs. When possible, we provide help from our student assistance fund to offset costs. Examples of additional costs could include:
- Dance shoes and class uniforms, musical instruments, photography prints for displays, and other items that belong to an individual not a class.
- Contest entry fees, special field trips, trips, or other enrichment opportunities
- Transportation home after an event as we do not run sports or activities busses.
Every effort is made to keep costs to the bare minimum, and support opportunities for every student.
