Westinghouse Arts Academy Charter School is a non-profit, public charter school serving students in grades 9-12 with an interest and talent in the arts. We are focused on delivering exceptional instruction in academic studies as well as digital arts, studio arts, literary arts, dance, music, and theatre in a student-centered blended learning environment, combining computer-based learning and face to face instruction with a focus on personalizing instruction. WAA utilizes a flex mod scheduling approach allowing students to have voice and choice in when, where, and how they learn.

Teaching artists will plan and deliver appropriate instruction in their areas of expertise using technology to facilitate a blended learning environment.

Teaching Artists must have experience in one or more of the following areas listed below the appropriate discipline:

Dance:

  • Ballet
  • Modern
  • Jazz
  • Tap
  • Hip-Hop
  • Composition
  • Dance History

Music:

  • Classical technique (instrumental and vocal)
  • Jazz technique and improvisation (instrumental and vocal)
  • Music technology
  • Musicianship/theory
  • Ensemble direction (instrumental and vocal)
  • Conducting
  • Composition
  • Solfege
  • Music History
  • Piano instruction (Clavinova experience preferred)

Theatre:

  • Acting
  • Voice and Speech (including dialects)
  • Stage movement (including stage combat)
  • Directing
  • Script analysis/theatrical literature
  • Theatre History
  • Musical Theatre
  • Stage Management
  • Set Design
  • Lighting Design
  • Costume design
  • Sound Design
  • Makeup (theatrical and special effects)

Digital Arts:

  • Audio production
  • Video production
  • Film studies
  • 3D modeling and animation
  • Video game design
  • Graphic design
  • Web design and development

Literary Arts:

  • Creative writing (prose and poetry)
  • Journalism
  • Grammar and style
  • Screenwriting/playwrighting
  • Creative non-fiction

Studio Arts:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Pottery/ceramics
  • Textiles
  • Fashion design
  • Mixed Media
  • Photography (digital and darkroom)
  • Photojournalism


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent life experience
  • Ability to use technology to transform teaching and learning
  • Current experience working in field of expertise
